hmailserver asking for password

If you've installed hMailServer and are being asked for a password but you're not sure what it is, you can follow these steps to reset the admin password to get you in.

  • Find your hMailServer.ini file, this is usually located in C:\Program Files\hMailServer\Bin on a default installation
  • Open the file
  • Using a hash generator create a new password choosing an MD5 hash
  • On the bottom line after AdministratorPassword= replace the characters with your new MD5 hash
  • Save the file

If you get any access denied warnings then find notepad on your computer instead, right click it and choose to 'Run as administrator'. You can then go to file > open and browse to the hMailServer.ini file and repeat the steps above.
