Ignore your IP address in Google Analytics

Repeatedly accessing your own web site can skew your analytics statistics, especially for new sites where the traffic may still be low. This post gives you a step-by-step guide to blocking an IP address in Google analytics to ignore certain users.

  • Firstly you need the IP address that you want to block, if you're trying to block your own IP visit http://www.whatsmyip.org/ to get your current address.
  • Login to your Google Analytics account and click on the 'Admin' tab.
  • Select the 'Filters' option and the click '+ New Filter'
  • Give the filter a name, this is only a reference (I titled mine 'Ignore work IP')
  • Change the drop downs to 'Exclude' > 'traffic from the IP addresses' > 'that are equal to'
  • Lastly add the IP address you want to block and click 'Save'.

Now you can browse your site as much as you like without it affecting your stats!
